Abstract

The fast expansion of renewable energy sources like solar photovoltaic and wind power has posed serious operation challenges to the contemporary power systems and especially in ensuring stability in both voltage and power quality and frequency stable grid synchronisation. Power electronic converters are important point of interchange between the production units and the utility grid; the control strategies used traditionally tend to have a hard time with the dynamic and intermittent nature of renewable energy generation. This paper assumes a smart design of power electronic converters to maximise the efficiency and stability of both the renewable energy grid integration. The proposed solution utilises adaptive intelligent control algorithm which dynamically controls converters switching actions in accordance with real time parameters of the system, such as voltage characteristics, load change, and renewable power output. The performance of the proposed controller under different operating conditions under variable operating conditions was assessed with the development of a detailed simulation model of the renewable energy conversion system with the help of MATLAB/Simulink. An analysis of key performance indices like voltage regulation, dynamic response, power transfer efficiency and total harmonic distortion (THD) was carried out. The outcome of the simulations exhibits that the intelligent control strategy plays a major role in enhancing the voltage stability and minimising harmonic distortion as opposed to the conventional PI-based control strategies. Moreover, the proposed system is also more responsive to load disturbances and significantly higher grid synchronisation. These enhancements will lead to an increase in the reliability of whole system and power quality. The suggested intelligent control system is a scalable and efficient model of integrating renewable sources of energy into the contemporary smart grid frameworks.
